Not sure if this is true, but it is believable. No doubt the accountants and lawyers (who BTW in my experience make good lawyers and accountants but horrible CEO's and leaders) have carefully calculated the rate of return on this utterly stupid idea and the numbers, according to them, work. Their idea, give the survivors of the Costa Concordia a 30% discount on the next cruise they take but no refund on the cruise that they potentially could have died on because of the their gross incompetence. Seriously, this is the best these management geniuses (no doubt Summa Cum Laude graduates of one of the many MBA programs) could figure out.
How about this as a real meaningful offer that would have been fair for the survivors!
- $100,000 for potentially killing you.
- A full refund of your cruise price on the one we couldn't complete.
- Free cruises for life for you and your spouse on any of our cruises when space is available, which since considering our horrible safety record and incompetent Captains will be almost any cruise we attempt to undertake in the future.
I am not an attorney but I am the CEO of a business that has been around for nearly 30 years and I know the difference between right and wrong. This is not only wrong it is indicative the culture that exists in some corporate suites around the world.
It is no wonder law suits have become a major industry, not only in the US but the world!
Sometimes folks you gotta just say "We fucked this up, we were wrong, and we are going to do whatever it takes to make this right, even if that means the organization ceases to exist!' and you have to be serious and mean what you say and back it up by matching your actions with your rhetoric
